Trip Details

Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven, Canada’s most renowned artists, found beauty and inspiration in Ontario’s wilderness, particularly in Algonquin Provincial Park. Their paintings have come to represent Canada as imagined by most Canadians and the world.

On this adventure, you’ll explore their most beloved landscape, a special place that continues to inspire creativity in all.

You’ll be met at the Toronto airport and transferred to Huntsville where you will spend your first night. The next morning, your local guide Rob Stimpson, an award-winning photographer, will take you on a walking tour of the Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery to learn about their paintings.

Travel with your guide Rob to Algonquin Outfitters (AO) to get geared up for your wilderness canoe trip. Spend the next 4 days and 3 nights exploring the painted landscape with your AO guide and Rob. Experience the magic that inspired the paintings of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven.

Get tips on how to photograph the stunning beauty of this magnificent landscape and the wildlife that lives there. Watch for moose, bear, fox and more.

Hear the haunting call of the loon and unforgettable howl of Algonquin’s wolves. Dine on delicious, healthy backcountry meals. Be entranced by the millions of stars and brilliant Milky Way. End your canoe adventure with an overnight stay in AO’s cozy tent cabin at Oxtongue Lake.

The next day, select from a variety of activities in Algonquin Park. Go mountain biking, hiking, explore the visitor centre, Algonquin Art Gallery and more. You’ll be shuttled to Huntsville where you’ll spend your last night. Enjoy visiting the quaint shops and restaurants in the downtown area.

On Saturday, you’ll be shuttled back to the Toronto airport, with a stop at the McMichael Art Gallery in Kleinburg to see original Tom Thomson and Group of Seven artwork.
